What is the TRACK Program?

In the year 2000, new mandates were handed down to School District 9-R from federal and state government.    Members of the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office and the Durango Police Department met with the Durango 9-R health curriculum committee to evaluate the D.A.R.E program. It was decided that a brand new program would be implemented. With work and ideas from everyone involved, T.R.A.C.K. (Teaching Responsibility And Choices to Kids) was chosen as the new acronym and platform for the new curriculum.

The TRACK Concept

A train runs on a track, leaving the station and possibly heading in many different directions before reaching its destination. On its way, it will have to make many choices. Our lives are in a way like a train; we are on track and moving forward to the destination we have chosen. We must make the right choices to stay on the tracks. Along the way, many people will be involved to help children and teenagers get to their destinations safely. Some of these helping hands are parents, grandparents, teachers, counselors, police officers, relatives, and friends – caring individuals how help young people make the right choices as they travel through the different towns in life. The T.R.A.C.K. Program is designed to assist by providing lessons that deal specifically with the many barriers young people face on their destination to adulthood.
